Each project is unique and interesting as it constitutes a technical challenge:
- first of all the accessibility to the statue with scafoldings; in Prouilhac, the statue stands 6meters above the ground!
- the cleaning and scouring of the statue is a key step for the whole restoration.
- Statues stand in very exposed places; suitable materials and paints are essential for the best protection and durability. The statue in Saint Clair, for example, is made of baked clay, and a mix of pigments and acrylic media has given the best effect and robustness.
- for some statue with a damaged part like a hand for example, a sculptor has intervened.
- the challenge includes the historical research: information are found in regional and diocesan archives as well as in questioning people from the village; this is to establish the statue background and the couleurs of the clothing.
As for the painting, this is a great opportunity to paint in 3d, particularly the face that makes the statue alive and gives its place back in the village. It is a great pleasure to see people passing by, stopping, and looking at a statue that was ignored being so rusty and disfigured.
